That was 3-servers and 6-O/S installs ago but... the export was definitely a 720 .avi file / remember playing with a few different formats before YT? would convert it-- but that was early 2008. I'm fairly certain YT is much more friendly to export formats now... hope that helps.

This solution didn't work for me. But after much trial and error, what DID work was to replace the dv tape with? a new one. A DV tape that has been used for SD recording and then re-cycled to record HD will result in the problems outlined above. A tape that has only been used to record HD works fine.

Thank you sir soooooo much. I had my Canon HV30 for almost 3 years and couldn't figure out how to capture my vids in HD. Everytime I hooked it up to my firewire to capture on WIndows Movie Maker, it would only capture my vids in SD. But after watching this, I tried out Sony Vegas trial on my pc and the program works beautifully. Thank you so much for showing me? Sony Vegas. I can now watch my recorded videos in full 1080p. You truly are a great man.

The Sony TRV608 is a analog video camera, which doesn't? shoot HD. There's no way to capture HD video from this camera. The low resolution 320X240 is due to the USB capture mode. If you want better video and better capture, you'll have to get a better video camera. The TRV608 was great when it came out in 2002, but things have changed since then.

Hey Bill, I recently got the Canon HV40 and I use Sony Vegas Pro 8 to edit. I recently shot some tests clips with it,? and Vegas captured them fine. However, it filled my project media tab with 999 clips, and each clip lasts about .01seconds. Is there some setting I have turned on or something? Its obviously a hassle to do anything with almost a thousand clips that are .01 sec in length. Thank you I hope you can help.

Hi Bill, you've probably already answered this question before but i haven't seen it. I have an hv30 camera and a dell laptop. my laptop doesn't come with fire-wire port that i need to connect the camera to. i bought an external express fire-wire card and it seems it only wants to work when it feels like it. I'm English and I pronounce "H" as "Haiche", but I have an Irish friend who? says "Aiche". That's the opposite of what you say. I don't really think it has anything to do with cultural or country dvides, I think it's more down to locality and/or individual/family/upbringing. I 86'd (dumped) the idea to beef up my accessibility to the zoom rocker on the HV20. After adding a wide angle, it seems to work? best walking up and framing the shot. The disadvantage of the Raynox is that at max zoom-in the pic is blurry. I use the HV20 as a B cam. The pic ,even in non-HD is excellent. Takes some practice setting it for low light to eliminate noise-see HV20 Users website for tricks.

dude...get with the times. every? camera can pause and then start recording again for a b-grade disappearing trick like you see on Bewitched and every camera comes with AV cables to plug into the TV.

I've used the hv30 against the more expensive "pro" cameras and unless you're filming on a Red cam, no one will notice the difference in quality. If you have $1500-$2000 get? an hv30 and a a few lenses and a steadicam. It's a much better deal deal than a multi thousand dollar cam.

It shouldn't be laggy and slow when editing HDV material. A RAID isn't necessary unless you're editing 3 or 4 video layers at once on a timeline. Not sure what's going on.? You can ask your question at Adobe's site in there Forum area. Perhaps someone there can help you.

I don't like using 24p or 24f. I never had good results myself. Not sure what to tell you. You could try rendering it first with CineForm. Search in Internet? for that. It's a utility that will render your footage into high-quality stuff. Perhaps they offer a solution. Not sure otherwise.

I had the same question when i decided to buy a new camera. I prefer canon HV30. This camera is far away better than Sony HC9 for many reasons. A Larger CMOS sensor, you can record in 24p (that is 24 frames per second, that? is the speed of a cinema camera) White balance, Audio Monitor etc. If you want a advice, then buy this camera. Hi Bill, forgive me if anyone else has asked about this.. I just got my HV30 and am trying to figure out how to work with it in Vegas 8 Pro. I solved the capture problem I am having but when I capture video recorded in the 30p mode, it is telling me it is interlaced. Will setting progressive in the properties and render box make it true 30p? Also, these files are 1440x1080 and are rendering letterboxed. I can fix it by switching to 1920x1080 but do I loose any quality doing that? Please? hlp.

Well, I've never worked with a 35mm film camera, so I? can't comment on that. Now I own a Video DSLR camera (550D) and it already gives you quite a filmic look but a 35mm adapter still looks more 'analog' and therefore more filmic. IMHO a good 35mm adapter can emulate very well the look of a 35mm film camera.

Nice video! I have a little question though. I'm interested in making stop-motion animation but I'm looking to capture that oldish 35mm look rather than the crisp HD stuff you see nowadays. Yeah, I still regret a bit selling? my adapter for a DSLR. I wouldn't say an adapter is necessarily cheaper and a DSLR comes with a lot of advantages but it still can't capture the cinematic touch an adapter can.

Hey,? I checked out xepoj and it looks very good. But still I'd prefer the Blade because of the textured bokeh, it looks simply more filmic. Yeah, I can understand your concern with the vignetting. I don't have a problem with it but it's a matter of personal taste. I actually like a subtle vignette and I'd even add it to "normal" footage from time to time.

checked out your movie, and it's great! nice work. I do love the video quality but some of shots has way too? much vignetting for my taste. The subtle black hue on the sides really bugs me for some reason, some people like it but I don't. I'm pretty sure i'll be happy with the blade or the handy, but I still don't know which one to get lol.

thanks for the input. I have looked into dslrs but seriously, I won't use anything unless it's a 7d or higher. I know the video quality is basically the same but i really don't like the build quality on the t2i. I also like the look of 35mm adapters more so than dslrs, I'll probably end up getting a dslr? for night/indoor shoots in the future. But for now I'd rather stick with an adapter. Thanks for answering my questions.

Hey, I'm using the SGpro, not the SGblade and my one came already with a spacer of? which you could adjust the size. But it's not that much, so I don't think there will be a big difference to the SGblade. Watch our newest movie (watch?v=IlGEcKYOLKQ). I'd say, about 90% of the shots were done with 50mm. No correction of vignetting at. Still there would have been the option of reducing it in post. I'd go with the Blade over the Handy35; it looks way better, but it also costs more.

thanks for the reply! What size spacers are you using and how bad is the vignetting with a 50mm? Just wondering because the sgblade isn't exactly meant for cameras such as the hv30 and I'm sorta on the fence between this or the handy35. With the handy35's condenser lens? it seems like you can pretty much get rid of all the vignetting. The SGblade does have better features tho, so i dunno.

Yes, I used a spacer for it. I wouldn't say that the HV30 specifically has problems with vignetting. Mostly vignetting has to do with the focal length. The higher the less vignetting. In most cases in this video I used the 135mm. That's why there is practically no vignetting. Of course you can always remove a lot of it in post if? you're filming with wide angle lenses.

I bought it for around 800? without the lenses. But it's not available anymore.? They only sell the successor (SGblade) which is more expensive. Probably you can find used SGpro's. Nevertheless I just sold my SGpro and bought a Video DSLR which has it's advantages but also disadvantages over a 35mm adapter.

I have a SGPro,? not a SGBlade, which has no interchangable ground glasses. The ground glass of the SGPro is the same as the RotoRazor 2. It gives you that cinematic bokeh but also looses a bit more light.

Hey, I use old M42 lenses. You can get them pretty cheap on ebay and they have a great quality. For this video specifically I used a 50mm @ F1.8 (35?) and a 135mm @ F2.8 (30?). I think the HV30 has a Memory Stick slot althogh it's only used to make photos. For? capturing video you still need minidv tapes.

Yes, but it has a lot of drawbacks and it's use is very limited. -? basicly it doesn't look like film (a DOF adapter does), espacially the bokeh shows this effect. - you can't do any camera movement because you're tied to huge focal length. - you have a huge range of things in focus due to the focal length - there is less depth due to the focal length - you can't zoom in anymore - the depth of field is still very shallow compared to a 35mm adapter

Excellent review and thanks for your comments re: zooming. ? I spent 8 years as a cameraman and now transfer film/videos. Two major operator technique problems: zoom and tilts/pans. Budding videographers need to study framing, zoom speeds, etc. by simply viewing general television programs. One key word: SLOW!

I beg to differ--I have the 50mm f/1.4 and 50mm f/1.8 and both work great in adequate lighting conditions.? Now if you need a little "extra" for low lighting conditions, by all means go with the f/1.4 I'm selling my Jag35Pro adapter bundled with 4 FD lenses and shrigg rig on ebay. There is a Canon 50 mm F1.4 FD mount lens sitting on eBay now for $49 +8 dollars shipping in the US as a buy it? now auction. Actually surprised it's still there. The whole point is, to get shallow depth of field you want to get that aperture open as wide as possible. The whole point of putting a DOF adapter on the video camera is to get shallow depth of field.

You want the fastest lens you can afford. 2.8 is a waste of time and money. The vignetting comes from two issues. Your lighting. In low lighting situations it is almost impossible to not have any vignetting. In normal lighting then? you zoom in a the focusing screen and you should eliminate almost any vignetting.
