I've seen Iron? Chef Morimoto use this technique. He had the knife placed on the midline of the coconut, and used a hammer to drive the knife inwards----the hammer broke! My concern is my kitchen knives aren't samurai-approved...so I'm scared the handle will break off, and the blade will go flying in my face.XD. Will try this nonetheless!

PS- I found that the flexible knife didn't work for me, instead my dad showed me how to use a really strong butter knife and place the shell down on a cutting board and then pry the fruit out from around the edges starting? at the points.
