I Imagine these professionals are very very good at other kinds of exercises, this looks a lot like what we do in American in wrestling and the Marine Corps... This was probably a taste of something different for them, probably the reason their coaches set it up. But yes, where I'm from the motto is "Better? a few good reps than lots of bad ones"

Martial arts get it so wrong, no water breaks, poor technique, the whole 'we will sw these rugby boys what we are made off' attitude. Strength and conditioning wise this training tends to stunt progression, however a one off session like this with appropriate rest is good for mental conditioning? but should not be a regular session. Martial arts and combat sports have mentally tough athletes but they have not reached their physical peak in their whole careers.....

I don't think football players are faster. I saw a comparison between the top athletes in rugby and football and Bryan Habana was 0.2 seconds faster than Trindon Holliday? over 100m.

Football players lift heavier weights because they sacrifice cardiorespiratory fitness for power. If rugby players didn't need to run for 80 minutes a match they could lift heavier weights too but they're limited? by the demand for aerobic fitness. Football players have very poor aerobic fitness because they don't need it. They're different sports and the athletes have the specific strengths required for their sport.

That first point has no relevance. The reason they don't get onto the practice squad is because they are fighters, not NFL players. You could take a UFC fighter and make him try out for a pro rugby club and he probably wouldn't make the team, simply because he's not? a rugby player.

When you have a former heavyweight UFC Champion and one of the greatest wrestlers in both college and in professional leagues and he doesn't even? make it onto the practice squad of a shitty NFL team, you know that NFL players are on a whole different level. /watch?v=nTczMKtmvdQ Rugby and American Football are completely different. And there's plenty of other college football players that have bench presses of 500 lbs and squats above 700 lbs. Sam Rayburn squatted 960 lbs. Casey Hampton can bench 600 lbs and squat over 800.Trent Richardson can do 500 lbs bench press with ease and so on. As for speed, 10.27 in 100 meter dash is good but not great. Trindon Holliday ran a 10.00 100 meter? dash, and he's a backup for a NFL team. Jeff Demps ran a 10.01, and there's many others that surpass 10.3 seconds.

Andrew Sheridan would have great strength for a COLLEGE football player, but he's not even close to the top-tier NFL players. 475 lbs bench press? Tim Tebow has that, and he's a QB. Larry Allen did 692 lbs on bench press and 900 lbs on squat. Mike Martin, fresh off of college, bench presses 500 lbs and squats 700 lbs. Noel? Devine, a former college speedster runningback, bench pressed 450 lbs despite weighing only 180 lbs.

I'm not so sure about that. Football players are used to wearing helmets and having padding. Football has a ton of fouls while rugby players play through a lot more. Plus rugby players have an endurance that I'm positive football players can't match. I'm an American and I've watched a ton? of both types of games so I'm not biased, just calling it as I see it.

I'm always amused at how R fans try and pretend that R hits are anywhere near the force and violence of AF hits. It's not even close. AF collisions often? reach 150-200 G's of force, I defy you or anyone to find info on Rugby hits even reaching 80 G's, in fact most R hits are aroend 10-15 G's. Btw, while college players, by rule, must wear full equipt, the majority of NFL plyrs only wear shoulder pads and helmets, which are as much weapons as protection for their hearts and brains.

To address your question, "what are nfl plyrs so scared of??" Have you seen big AF hits? Their not afraid of anything, but? their not stupid either. Ppl die in AF, frequently. 13 plyrs were killed between Aug.-Nov. of 2011, most from head and spine trama, 70+ suffered crippling injuries. Before equipt was worn 18-35 players died yearly, and 100's were crippled, with fewer than 250 teams in existance. AF's reg. injury rate is as higher or higher than R, but severe injuries are much worse

I'd encourage you to look up those players in uniform, they look huge and fat. The fact is that 95%+ linemen, have their? body type. You're only going to find a handful of players with truly big bellies, but even those plyrs wouldn't be in the NFL if they weren't freakish athletes, such as: Dontari Poe 6'3 (1.93m) 346lb (157kg) watch?v=i0OshC8RTpQ Vince Wilfork 6'2 (1.88) 323lb (147kg) watch?v=3qyM44g7G_w Both of whom are as strong as Olympic lifters, and as fast or faster than R bigs.

funny that coming from nfl where after every play they have a? 1 minute rest.. then when its their turn to get off the field htey have another 5-10 min break. rugby players are constantly running up and back the field where nfl are standing there doing shit all. you don't even need a base level of fitness to play nfl. look at those fat cunts in the line of scrimmage. the amount of time nfl players have to recover is just ridiculous. rugby is fast pace gam, nfl is slow and need breaks.

2 different sports, cant really compare, but this is Rugby League which in NZ we just called League, and Rugby Union we just call Rugby. Elite League players have to be able to play for 80mins of tackling, up downs, shuttles, and Running from 3/4 to full sprint, no time outs, no? timed breaks. What I think most of our Athletes do lack is a lack of Strength training, but get away with it because they damm good at their craft.
